The Results Are In: ROW 80 Check In

I posted my first poll this past Friday. I asked people to tell me what they wanted from author blogs, and the choices were: giveaways, excerpts/sample chapters, writing challenges and rewards, information on the author's future books, and intimate reflections from the author.

I had almost 20 responders (including my Facebook numbers). The results:

Note: Giveaways were 0%, so not included on the graph
I found the 0% for giveaways particularly surprising. As a reader, I love giveaways. I read so much, and buying book after book gets expensive. Intimate reflections from the author won by a landslide (84.6%). This made me happy, because that's the focus of our blog.

I should have been clearer about "writing challenges and rewards." I meant the challenges writers face and the rewards of a completed project. I'm wondering now if people thought I meant challenges and rewards for writers. I've loved the writing challenges posed by Rachael Harrie's Platform-Building Campaign, so I can see how people might have read it that way. Just goes to prove... poll results are only as good as the question and answers.

What's your theory as to why giveaways scored 0%? I'm scratching my head over it!

My A Round of Words in 80 Days update:

First of all, is it check in day again really? Why does time always seem to speed up as the year-end approaches?

Writing
Writing with my mom does not lend itself to NaNoWriMo, so I'm sitting out this round. I'm so excited for those who are participating.

In that spirit, my new writing goal will be 750 words a day (I may raise this depending on how I'm doing) on one of my works in progress. Plus, I plan to be a NaNo cheerleader. Wishing all of you luck.

Depression Cookies & Mom in Love with Fiction blogs
Both progressing smoothly. I celebrated 200 posts this week on the DC blog. *woot*

Miscellaneous
I'm adding a new goal here as well... exercise. I've seen so many people incorporating this into their goals. I like accountability, so here goes... a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise 4-5 times per week.

Now, I'm off to check on my fellow ROW80ers. You can check out some great writers here.

Wow 200 posts! That's quite an accomplishment. Seems like you're getting a lot accomplished. Good for you. And the NaNoers will be glad for your cheering. At least, I know I will.

Monday is the start of another week for the blogfest. I hope to see you there!

Yay for adding exercise. Maybe one of these weeks I'll add that... for now, I am very focused on any and every creative process. It works... so I know it would for exercise, too.

Congrats on your progress!

Nice job on your goals this week! Incorporating exercise is always good. I had it as a goal last round, and it really has stuck. It's nice to see that so many ROW80ers are all about goals in all areas of life. Have a wonderful week this week!

Oh, man, another one getting the exercise goals! Now I'm definitely going to have to step up and see about starting one for myself! With me, it's just that I know I need to work out at a gym and I so don't have the funds right now. But hopefully soon!

Congratulations on 200 posts! That's awesome! And everything else seems to being going very well, too! Always great to see a check in like that! Keep it up!

Interesting survey results. I wouldn't have expected the 0% for the giveaways either.

Love the poll you did and the results are interesting. Something to ponder as I plan for including more non-update posts in my blogging schedule!
Awesome work on your goals this week and good luck this upcoming!

Thanks so much! I always appreciate commenters... for me, support is key to writing success.

Juliana, You'll see me there. Sounds like a fun blogfest. Thanks for organizing.

Looking forward to cheering on the NaNoers!

Yay for exercise!

I'm curious about the giveaways issue, too, Tia. I know that I don't really enjoy hosting them...they're a lot of work and then there's the mailing, etc., afterwards.

But I would think readers would enjoy them.

I did giveaways of my own creations when I first started my blogs and had a fairly good response.

Thanks for visiting my blog.

Laurel-Rain, I was perplexed by the giveaways 0%. I wonder if I should have been more specific to say "book giveaways." Although, I must admit I've always been disappointed in the attention I see on giveaways. Hmmmm.

I am hosting one (ends today) on my other blog for fellow-writer, Melissa Luznicky Garrett. If any of you are interested, please go to http://etjrmbach.blogspot.com/2011/10/exciting-new-ya-book-and-giveaway.html

Thanks, Laurel-Rain, for stopping by. I loved your blog post about characters!

My exercise goal is the same as yours, Tia! (Unfortunately, my progress is not what it should be in this area.)

I found the results of your poll interesting too. What I personally like most about authors' blogs is their voice. I get a sense of what their writing is like generally, and if I like their blog, odds are I will like their book.

Am glad you will be shaking your pom poms for us....going to need all the encouragement I can get!

Glad things are going well and 750 words a day is a good target. I added in exercise last round and did more because of it. I didn't this round and I know it was because I didn't want to be accountable...maybe after NaNo!

Have a great week!

Nice work on your goals! I'm a NaNo cheerleader this year also, so I'll add my sparkly pom-poms to yours.

Also, the giveaway? I have no idea. I love giveaways too!

Julie, I like connecting with author's voices, too. If I like their posts, chances are I will like their book.

Em, I'm workingo on my cheerleader routine. I'll have to come up with a cheer now worthy of my NaNo peeps. The pressure is on!

Bridgette, Grab some pom-poms and join me.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

think we will need a cheer leader!! - strange result but very encouraging to know most people aren't reading you for the goodies they can get - all the best with this week -

Hi Tia, nice job on your goals and best of luck with the exercise goal. I've been wondering about doing something more with my blog so those results were interesting.

Thanks, Alberta & Katy for stopping by and commenting. I'll have to do another poll... this was fun and informative!
