Yakety Yak = Y: Blogging from A to Z

I am a woman surrounded by women. As the oldest of three girls and now mom to three daughters, my life is destined to be full of yakety yak. I'm not complaining, conversation is character study for a writer.

Still, I have to admit the lyrics of The Coaster's song, Yakety Yak, often come to mind these days. My oldest daughter is 12 (the other two are 10 & 7), so I've only just begun the journey through teenagerdom. The next time I'm asking for something and getting a lot of lip service, I think I might just break out into song.

Yakety Yak

Take out the papers and the trash
Or you don't get no spendin' cash
If you don't scrub that kitchen floor
You ain't gonna rock and roll no more
Yakety yak (don't talk back)

Just finish cleanin' up your room
Let's see that dust fly with that broom
Get all that garbage out of sight
Or you don't go out Friday night
Yakety yak (don't talk back)

You just put on your coat and hat
And walk yourself to the laundromat
And when you finish doin' that
Bring in the dog and put out the cat
Yakety yak (don't talk back)

Don't you give me no dirty looks
Your father's hip; he knows what cooks
Just tell your hoodlum friend outside
You ain't got time to take a ride
Yakety yak (don't talk back)

And two extra verses from me for fun:

You are too young for some snot-nosed fool
to be making you squeal and drool
So get back to putting your clothes away
And please don't let your thoughts stray
Yakety yak (don't talk back)

I'm doing this for your own good
so stop hiding 'neath that hood
Don't be thinking you invented yak
'Cause your Mama mastered talking back.
Yakety Yak (cut me some slack)

If you enjoyed the extra lyrics, give me some comment love.

Bwahahahahahahaha!!!!!

First I was remembering the Tiny Toons episode with that song. Plucky Duck was the one being told to do all that stuff. No lyrics changed or anything.

But then your extra verses just rocked it. Awesome!

haha! yes...aren't they wanting to get old young nowadays?...sigh...my youngest is 12 and a half. Oldest is no longer a teen, and the middle one moved to the state where his girlfriend is. I think the oldest is the one who talks back the most nowadays. She thinks she knows everything that is worth knowing.

I remember this well. One of those sons that will just stick in your head. With that sax in the background.

Loved "cut me some slack." 8)

Yakaty, yak - do come back! It's interesting seeing your adult children emerging from those teenaged years - I'm seeing the maturation (sometimes) of my son, who lives on his own, and it never ceases to amaze me. He'll make a great father one day!

Jaleh - SO glad you enjoyed it! I'm thinking of singing it just to see the reaction on my daughter's face. ;-)

Soggy in the Corner, I'm the oldest, and I'm definitely victim to the reap what you sow philosophy on this one.

Eloise, Now let's hope they do cut me some slack. Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow at Marty's!

Rebecka, Thanks!

Alana, I bet he will!
