What's Cool About Indie: Blogathon, Day 9 & ROW80 Update

What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.
J.D. Salinger

I saw this quote today while surfing the Internet. As I was nodding my head in agreement while reading it, something dawned on me... since I read a lot of indie books lately, I often get to pick the brain of the author. How cool is that!! I get to be a fan AND contact the author.

What I wouldn't give to be able to call up Markus Zusak and discuss The Book Thief or Judy Blume (my favorite author from back when) to talk about any of her books. But those authors aren't as accessible as my indie author friends.

It's just one of many reasons that Indie Rocks!

And speaking of indie... my YA book, Chasing Memories, is finally available on Kindle. *woot*

I'm so excited to start getting reader reaction. I want to talk about it! I feel like it's a secret I've been keeping but dying to tell someone about.

But, now I need to get to writing the sequel. It's in my head, and I have lots of notes. First, I have to get through next week and this move (movers come in less than 24 hours!). I can't remember when the next A Round of Words in 80 Days (ROW80) starts, but writing the sequel will be my main focus when it does.

Hope all my Blogathon and ROW80 friends are having a great month!

For fun, if you could pick the brain of any author, who would it be?

It's so cool now to have a famous author on my Twitter or Facebook friends list. I do a little happy dance in my head when that happens! But you're right: I'm friends with a LOT of brilliant authors! Go Indie!

By the way, is your book coming to Nook soon? My hubby has a Kindle, but he's getting annoyed that his recommended books are all based on stuff I've downloaded onto his reader. LOL.

Which author's brain would I like to dissect? George R.R. Martin maybe? But I don't know. I'm not sure there's a published author I wouldn't want a chance at. Maybe we could do a random draw of authors, put them all in a room and just see what happens? I think that would be fantastic!

Congrats on getting the book published! Very nice cover too, very evocative.

And so true about the accessibility of indie authors. I hear so much more from my readers now than when I was exclusively "legacy" -- very cool. :)

Good luck with the book and have a great week!

Best of luck with the move, Tia! The next Round starts July 1st, so you'll have a few days to settle in before it starts.

I love saying that I know so many Indie authors--it makes me feel like such an insider, lol.

Take care, and I look forward to hearing from you from San Francisco.

I know what you mean about it being cool to know these authors! As someone who is as yet unpublished, it gives me great encouragement seeing them do so well as well!

I have no idea whose brain I would pick if I had the opportunity. There are so many! My brain immediately goes to some of the classic, like Jane Austen or Charles Dickens.

Congrats on getting the novel published! I have grabbed myself a copy, not sure when I will get to it, but it's on my Kindle. :)

I'd pick the brain of Cornelia Funke. She and I seem to have a lot in common on the imagination and illustrator sides. :) Only, she's written a best-selling series (Inkheart), and I haven't. I'd like to know how she did it. WRITE ON!
