My oldest didn't seem to like reading for a very long time, and I was so disappointed as I've loved it my entire life. Once extra reading assignments were no longer a requirement for school, though, she started reading almost as much as me! I asked her about it and the pressure to acquire so many points each term took all the joy out of reading and now she just does it for the love of the books. My parents had 6 of us, but we didn't participate in outside activities (we were each other's entertainment etc..). Now my sister has 4 kids and is doing what you do and I am exhausted for her. Your daughter sounds like me when I as her age. I am an avid reader now, but in school I didn't like a lot of the material. It changed for me in highschool when they were more flexible about materials. I love that she wants to savor a good book. Sometimes I've had to practically claw the book out of their hands at night long after my sons were supposed to have their lights out and be asleep. In those moments, I give them what-for (because hey, they disobeyed), but when I leave the room, (ssssh!) I'm grinning from ear to ear. I remember sneaking my book with a flashlight as I was growing up too. :)Julie Gloverhttp://www.julieglover.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1994548621354458694.post-54864542282460002452012-09-11T11:31:27.885-04:002012-09-11T11:31:27.885-04:00Ahhhhh those MasterCard moments, eh? :)

I read a little slower than the average bear as well but I always had a book up my nose in school. I would have to agree with your daughter in that I'm savoring it, living it, making it MINE.

Great post today!
